How to Reduce Anxiety and Sleep Better with CBD Oil

I have always been someone who has needed a good night’s sleep. From a young age, my mum would notice if I hadn’t had enough sleep, I would be more moody or just not myself. I’ve always considered myself a good sleeper: managing to fall asleep easily and sleeping soundly without any issues. However, when I hit my late 40s, I suddenly began struggling with sleep. As I’m sure you can imagine, it was quite a shock to suddenly find myself awake at all times of the night. Having spent some time mulling this over, I have concluded that one of the most likely causes are hormones, and I’m pretty sure I am peri menopausal, so symptoms like this are common. 

The problem with no sleep is, it’s another stress added on top of everything else and naturally, a lack of sleep ends up impacting everything else. It almost feels like a slow torture: not being able to fall asleep despite desperately trying, tossing and turning, over analyzing every conversation you’ve had that day, or waking in the night feeling anxious for no particular reason – whilst at the same time counting each and every hour of sleep that you’re not getting – awful!

So for the past 2 years, I have been researching sleep remedies: meditations, no phones or TV in the bedroom, hot baths, magnesium before bed and yoga poses to promote sleep. All of these things have certainly helped but nothing cured the problem. So another remedy I have been looking into a lot over the past few years is cannabis oil. The problem with cannabis oil is that it is not regulated, so it can be quite difficult to source, then when you do manage to find it, batches can vary so I found my results varied. I also experienced some side effects, not to mention the legal implications of owning such an oil.  So after more research,  I began to look into CBD oil, and this when I truly made a remarkable discovery.

CBD oil is an oil extracted from the hemp plant. Cannabis oil, on the other hand, is derived from the cannabis plant. Cannabis and Hemp are from the same species of plant, but they are each genetically distinct and unique in their chemical makeup.

Both hemp and Cannabis contain CBD, the non-psychoactive substance. However the main difference between the two, is Cannabis contains THC, which is the substance that gives users a “high’ feeling.

CBD is a non-psychoactive substance, so it doesn’t give a natural high to users. It also does not cause anxiety or paranoia associated with THC, even when CBD is consumed in higher amounts. CBD is legal without a prescription. Cannabis oil, however, is not due to its THC content and psychoactive properties. So users who purchase or use Cannabis oil in places where marijuana is illegal may be breaking the law.

The CBD oil I use and love is Jacob Hooy and this is sold in Holland and Barrett. After I had such great results with this oil, I had friends test it too, so I would never recommend something on my blog if I didn’t completely believe in it. I am confident that this oil comes with no side effects, is non-psychoactive and works extremely well for sleep and anxiety.  I haven’t tested it personally for more serious illnesses but I have heard the % of dose would need to be stronger than 2.75% to treat serious or terminal conditions, so I would advise anyone with more serious complaints to get professional advice on that.

7 drops before bed helps me have a great nights sleep


The only stated use is up to 15 drops a day. I wanted it for sleep so I started with 5 drops before bed, now I find that 7 drops is the perfect amount for me. I would suggest experimenting and finding what works for you.

Lift your tongue and place the drops under the tongue; leave for 30 seconds before swallowing or drinking. It doesn’t taste great but for me, the benefits greatly outweigh the displeasing taste. Then I head to bed.

I now find that I am able to sleep for a solid 7 hours of good quality, uninterrupted sleep. Before when I used to fall asleep, it was a very restless sleep with lots of waking up, and never really getting comfortable. Now I fall asleep, and very rarely wake up during the night. I wake up feeling rested and calm. The impact on my life has been quite remarkable: I feel more able to function, much happier, less overwhelmed and naturally, less exhausted.  

The other discovery I have also noticed, is that I don’t have any anxiety at the moment – nothing!

This is quite unusual for me; I feel calm, in a good mood and I am coping with my day to day life in a much better way. In fact, I would go as far as saying, I feel like a new person!

    I have found it has the opposite effect with me, I have only tried 2 drops morning and evening, worse nights sleep ever. I am afraid to try more!!!

      2 drops is not enough for sleep, I would up the dose in the evening, you don’t need to take it in the day for sleep, only for for other issues.
