Can a scented candle really conjure up memories and emotions? That’s the thinking and inspiration behind Cocochi, a new range of scented candles. The creators of Cocochi kindly sent me one of their beautiful candles to try, and I was touched by their story. Founded by the co-owners after the loss of their spouses, they decided to put their energy into something positive and life-affirming, rather than being consumed with grief. As a tribute, they came up with a capsule collection of five scented candles with fragrances that reminded them of experiences and memories that they had shared with the loved ones they had lost. Cocochi’s signature range consists of Tuscan, a cocktail of cardamom, violet, lemon, mandarin, violet and guaiacwood evoking fond memories of trips to Italy; Manor, with notes of clove, patchouli, and almond reminiscent of cosy winter evenings, log fires and old books; Amble, a blend of cedarwood, vetivert, cassis and patchouli recreates the scent of autumn walks in the woods; Davana, a combination of orchard fruits, honeysuckle and rose is a reminder of childhood memories and the joy of being of a child; and Juillet, created with green leaf, jasmine, tuberose, peony and lily is evocative of long, summer evenings with your nearest and dearest.
Cocochi candles are made using the highest quality natural, sustainable ingredients – soy wax, cruelty-free fragrance, essential oils and clean-burning cotton wicks. All the candles are vegan-approved and paraben-free. Soy is used in preference of petroleum-based paraffin as it’s a safe and natural alternative. The wax is made from soybeans which are a natural, renewable and biodegradable source. Soy candles burn more ‘cleanly’ than those made from paraffin wax, creating very little soot by comparison. They are also longer-lasting and slower-burning than paraffin wax candles.
I was sent the Davana Candle to try. Delivered in eco-packaging, I was impressed by the simple, stylish design which would sit perfectly in any interior. Most importantly, the scent was incredible, and as soon as I removed the lid, I could smell the delicious honeysuckle and fruit fragrance, even before the candle was lit. Burning the Davana candle has been a joy. The scent has real staying power, and the aroma of honeysuckle and fruit is delightful! I used the candle during meditation to see if it would bring back my own childhood experiences. Instead, my head was filled with images of dream homes! One of my favourite pastimes is pinning beautiful and inspirational homes on Pinterest and I realised that I had unconsciously linked gorgeous scents to beautiful homes. The power of the senses! So rather than taking me back to childhood, the Davana candle made me feel that I was living in my ideal home. After burning Davana for the first time, I was inspired to spring clean my bedroom and to make everything more organised, so that it not only had the aroma of my perfect home, it looked like it too. A definite win! We spend so much time online, and thinking about what we haven’t got, instead of being grateful for what we already have. Cocochi’s candle taught me a valuable life lesson.
This really is high quality candle, created with premium ingredients. Beautifully packaged and stylishly designed, the scent is intense and it doesn’t diminish over time. Another positive is that the candle burns evenly to the end which is pretty impressive. Many candles I’ve tried haven’t burned so well. I think at £18 they are very reasonably priced too!
Cocochi also run their own candle-making workshops, the perfect personalised gift for someone you are struggling to find that ‘special’ gift for. The two and a half hour workshop involves creating your own 175g scented candle using soy wax, fragrance and essential oils. Imagine all those beautiful aromas and the joy of coming home with your own hand-made candle? I hope someone buys that gift for me next month! See here for details; https://cocochi.co/workshops/.
I hope you enjoy your Cocochi candle experience as much as I did, and such a beautiful back story too!
