It’s well and truly winter, just in case you hadn’t noticed!
Say ‘Hello’ to chill winds, torrential rain, and I’m sure it won’t be long before there’s snow.
That means it’s time to overhaul your skincare routines, and swap in some extra-soothing, moisturising and glow-giving products that will keep skin ship-shape when the temperature drops, and when the party season kicks in.
Best Beauty Products for Glowing Winter Skin
My winter routine tends to be more involved than in summer, mainly because my skin is paler so it shows up any redness more easily. The cold weather makes my skin drier, so it needs more protection from the elements. Especially when I’m going from the freezing cold outside to the warmth of central heating indoors.
Here are my top cold weather skin survival essentials – plus a few expert tips from leading make-up artists and facialists.
It’s time to get glowing!
My 7 winter wonders for glowing skin
Cleanse, buff and moisturise with Tri-Balm
The first step to glowing skin? Cleanse. And not just once, but twice! I always double cleanse now, as all my make-up artist friends told me I should!
One of my favourite plant-based cleansers, Tri-Balm, is also a 3-in-1 product multitasker. It’s not only effective, it’s also super-gentle, and doesn’t sting my eyes when I remove mascara.
A blend of botanical oils, gently exfoliating pumpkin enzyme and moisturising hyaluronic acid, Tri-Balm not only removes make-up, it buffs and moisturises at the same time.
How to Use
Apply directly to the skin – this smart, twist-up stick couldn’t be easier to use – massage in using circular movements and remove by rinsing with warm water, a hot cloth or a tissue or bamboo cleansing pad. Full review of Tri Balm and Tri Spritz here.
‘During the winter, opt for skincare that contains soothing, anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as calendula and sunflower oil. This will help to reduce redness and irritation when the temperature drops outside, and the central heating is switched on inside,’ recommends Tri-Balm founder, make-up artist and facialist, Frances Prescott.

Get Glowing with Pixi Glow Tonic
One of my favourite radiance boosters is Pixi Glow Tonic. Another multitasking must-have! It not only rebalances skin by removing excess oil, it also gently cleanses and exfoliates all in one!
The combination of glycolic acid, red ginseng and soothing aloe vera leave skin smooth and glowing – and perfectly prepped for make-up application. It’s also alcohol and cruelty-free!

I recently worked with Pixi founder, Petra Strand, who shared this tip for glowing winter skin.
‘When skin is dehydrated, especially in the colder months, for extra moisture, I use a hydrating mist and spray it liberally onto a foundation brush, blending it with my base and buffing it on using small, circular movements,’ says Petra. ‘Skin looks flawless and dewy.’
Spray Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist, onto a brush and dip in your foundation before blending. It works a treat!
Wake-up brighter with Noomi Overnight Serum
I love a product that works while I sleep, and Noomi’s Overnight Serum is the perfect bedtime skin treat.
Having grown up surrounded by Scandinavian flowers, plants, berries and trees, Noomi’s founder, Tindra Eriksson, has a unique understanding of natural ingredients. The fact that she is also a fully trained nurse and aesthetician has meant that she has been able to share her knowledge, and this spirit of generosity is at the heart of the Noomi brand.
It’s got all the glow-getting goodies including Retinol to help smooth and resurface skin; brightening Vitamin C and BirchTech Hybrid.
Noomi’s special blend of plant-based ingredients harvested from Nordic forests, including Lingonberry, Chaga, Roseroot and Birch Sap to repair and revive skin as you slumber!
Described by many devotees as ‘beauty sleep in a bottle’, it’s perfect for all skin types, and is cruelty-free and vegan certified. Bonus!

Leading make-up artist, Dani Guinsberg, knows how to make skin glow!
She has worked on shoots for Vogue, Stella Magazine, ES Magazine, Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire and with celebrities including actress Emma Thompson, Olivia Coleman and Keely Hawes.
Like me, Dani loves a serum. ‘My top winter beauty tip is to invest in a good serum to really feed the skin at a deep level. My favourite is Susanne Kaufman Nutrient Concentrate Skin Smoothing Serum – and it’s vegan too.’
Sleep tight with Hemsley Organic Night Repair
If your skin tends to drier and more-sensitive in winter, join the club!
I’ve hunted high and low for a really comforting moisturiser, and this night cream is my new must-have.
Hemsley Organics skincare is a new range of products infused with the healing vibration of Reiki Energy. And judging by the fact that Hemsley have already won Bronze at the Green Parents Awards, and been Commended in the Beauty Shortlist Awards, they are set for success!
With Bulgarian Rose Water, Baobab and Pomegranate Oils, this nourishing organic night cream really is a winner all-year-round. It’s especially ideal for the colder months when my skin always needs a boost.
I love the naturalness of the fragrance, even though my skin is super-sensitive, this hydrates my skin without any signs of redness or sensitivity. The potent blend of antioxidants and essential vitamins visibly revitalises dull skin overnight, leaving it more radiant.

Protect from Winter UV Light with Organii Anti-Ageing Facial Cream SPF15
We tend to forget that even on cloudy days, and yes, even in the winter, that our skin is still susceptible to damage from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV). Both UVA and UVB rays have an impact on our skin, with UVA being linked to ageing and UVB to burning.
It’s definitely worth investing in a daily SPF cream (sun protection factor) with a sun protection factor of 15 to protect your skin when you’re outside at this time of year.
I’m a huge fan of Organii vegan and organic products and wouldn’t leave home without Organii Anti-Ageing Facial Sun Cream SPF 15.
The cream is formulated with physical, non-chemical sun filters and contains a nurturing blend of Argan Oil, Coconut, Carrot Seed and Flax Seed Oils. I love how it nourishes and moisturises my skin as well as protecting it.

Renew radiance with Emma Hardie Vitamin C Intense Daily Serum
I’m a real fan of Emma Hardie skincare. A hugely respected facialist, Emma has put all her experience working with skin into creating products that really work. I’ve been road-testing this serum for several months, and have noticed a real difference in the tone and texture of my skin.
It’s definitely a real glow-booster, thanks to the combination of brightening and redness-reducing Vitamin C, moisturising Vitamin B3, and Red Algae Extract for extra luminosity.
Expensive but worth it!

Pep up your circulation with a Gua Sha Facial
Nothing gets your skin glowing more than a bit of facial massage. I’m hooked on Gua Sha, a modern take on an Ancient Chinese practice.
My skin definitely looks fresher after a DIY Gua Sha facial and it’s really good for waking up your if it’s looking dull or tired.
It’s a simple but effective way to give yourself a fuss-free home facial. See my step-by-step facial here.
Hayo’u founder, Chinese medicine practitioner and best-selling author Katie Brindle gave me the following winter skin care tip.
“For the perfect early morning pick me up – Keep your beauty restorer next to your shower and simply use it with water. One minute later you’ll look like you’ve had the best night of beauty sleep “
Wow so many great tips. We will never have dry winter skin again!
