I came across the Law of Attraction just over 20 years ago when I was going through a really hard time. My life was in a downward spiral. I lost my mum, my relationship, my job, my home, even my car. I felt totally bewildered and started to wonder how the hell I was going to get back on track. But I’ve learned that sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to get back to the top. Hardship forces you to think outside the box, and teaches you to look at the bigger picture.
During those dark days, I was living in a hostel for the homeless with my 4-year-old daughter. I can clearly remember looking out of the window and wondering how on earth we had ended up there. The truth is that it can happen to anyone, from any walk of life, at any moment. The real test is how you deal with it. For a few weeks, I allowed myself to be a victim. I complained to anyone who would listen but soon realised that it wasn’t getting me anywhere.
I knew I had to take control and start to fight. Mainly, I have my daughter to thank. If I had been on my own, I don’t know if I would have had the same strength or motivation. But one look at her wee innocent face, and I knew she deserved all the things that I had as a child. I felt so guilty for bringing her into this world and not being able to provide for her. And that’s what spurred me on.
How I changed my life using the Law of Attraction
I got myself together and got myself a job. And soon, I started to piece my life back together. My journey to work by bus (the cheapest way to travel) took so long that I started listening to interviews and talks by spiritual gurus (podcasts weren’t really a thing back then) to pass the time and make the most of the journey. This is when I first came across the Law of Attraction (LOA) and learned how we attract things and experiences into our lives.
I was transfixed by the idea and began to read as much as I could about it. Without a doubt, I believe that I have manifested many things into my life, both good and bad, but at least I now have some control over what’s happening. I also believe that we all have a pre-destined life path and that we can’t control every event or circumstance.
But I am also certain that we all have the power to manifest what we need to make our lives a hell of a lot easier if we work with it. Living Your Best Life with Gwenne Dickson
For this post, I’ve teamed up with Gwenne Dickson, owner of Living Your Best Life Coaching, and asked her to share her tips on manifesting and on how we can take full advantage of Law of Attraction. How would you describe the Law of Attraction?
In simple terms, the Law of Attraction is the ability to ‘attract’ whatever we feel we need into our lives, whether it’s material or emotional.
“The Law of Attraction is the most powerful law in the Universe,” explains Gwenne. “ It is based on each individual’s vibration and on their thoughts. We attract what we think about and what our energy ‘sends out’ to the Universe. You might know it better as ‘Like Attracts Like’. We are always ‘vibrating’ a signal and attracting matching signals back to us. And that is LOA.”
Can you explain more about vibrations?
“Every emotion has a vibration. Low vibration emotions include anger, fear or sadness, while the highest vibration emotions are joy, love, and freedom. We are always moving up and down the vibrational scale of emotions. This is often illustrated by an image of an upward or downward spiral. When you think about it, it makes total sense, as we often use those terms to describe how we’re feeling and which direction our emotions are going in.”
What is manifesting?
Think of manifesting as being a bit like a magnet that we can use to ‘draw’ things towards us.
“Manifesting is the process that we use to ‘attract’ the experiences or things that we want into our life,” explains Gwenne. “However, whether we are aware of it or not, we are always manifesting our experiences.
How to Apply the Law of Attraction
Have you ever had one of those days where one thing after another goes wrong? We’re actually manifesting this by our reaction to the first thing that went wrong, and if we don’t catch it straight away and choose to react differently, it can create a snowball effect. It’s not all down to positive thinking, but if you can catch a thought or reaction and choose to react in a better way, then you can turn things around and stop it becoming one of those days.’”
Are there any limitations when it comes to what we can manifest?
“You can be, do or have anything you want. You just have to believe and trust that you can have it – and expect that it will happen. It may not be exactly how or what you imagine as the Universe often sends you in a different direction or on another path. But it will always know what’s best for you.”
How do I tell if I’m doing it wrong if it doesn’t happen?
“You’re not doing it wrong! It may just take a little longer or look different to how you imagined. Go general and don’t be too specific or hung up on the exact details. This or something better is a good place to start.”
Have you any tips on how to start using the Law Of Attraction to manifest?
I recommend that you start by following Abraham-Hicks and reading Esther and Jerry Hicks’ books, such as Ask and It is Given. All of these are good introductions to LOA and the processes that will you get started – and that you can easily put into practice.”
What are the LOA steps?
Step 1: Ask
Be Clear on what you want.
Step 2: It Is Given
Trust that the Universe has heard your request and is working on bringing it to you.
Step 3: Receive
Get into the “receiving mode” by doing things that make you feel good and that raises your vibration daily. Meditation is perfect as it allows you to let go of the ‘how’ and be open to receiving.
Step 4: Get really good at Step 3.
Focus on alignment with your Higher Self or Source energy and mastery of your emotions.
Step 5: Embrace ‘Contrast’
When you’re having ‘off’ days where things aren’t going well or you feel bad, embrace them with the knowledge that these are helping you to hone your desires and launch ‘rockets of desire’ into the Universe so that you can go back to Step 1.
