Thanks to the growing number of brands who are passionate about finding alternatives to chemical ingredients, finding natural and sustainable beauty products is becoming so much easier.  I’m delighted to introduce my latest natural beauty find, Meadow Skincare, a capsule collection of organic skincare blended in small batches using only vegan, nut-free and 100% plant-derived ingredients. Created by psychotherapist Kelly Spinks and massage therapist Wendy Lane,  all the products are formulated and hand-blended by Kelly and Wendy and most are made within 7 days of order to ensure their freshness and potency.  Not only are all the products 100%  natural – they work – so they sit very comfortably in this blog!  When I swapped from mainstream, chemical-laden skincare to natural brands,  I still wanted the products to be effective! It doesn’t always tally, but Meadow Skincare performs and successfully targets and addresses 21st Century skin concerns,  including pollution, pigmentation, sun damage, ageing and dehydration.

Meadow Skincare starter pack

Waterless formulations, eco-packaging and the finest raw ingredients

Meadow Skincare is made with high concentrations of raw ingredients including plant oils, fruit butters and fresh clays, all sourced from a small number of trusted suppliers.  Another bonus is that the products are waterless, eliminating the need for chemical preservatives such as parabens.  Surprisingly,  most skincare products contain up to 80% water and unless chemical preservatives are used, there’s a risk of bacterial growth.  Cutting out water allows for a preservative-formulation that is both safe and long-lasting.  Meadow Skincare comes in environmentally-friendly, recyclable glass containers instead of plastic pots and pumps – good news on all fronts!  Kelly and Wendy have also banished any unnecessary packaging, and parcel sizes are carefully monitored to minimise Meadow Skincare’s carbon footprint.  What’s not to love?

Meadow SkinCare Tried & Tested

My products arrived in a stylish cardboard carton, packed out with paper and cardboard cuttings. I trialled the Starter Kit, £25, which includes Gently Nourishing Cleansing Balm (15 ml), Hydration Boost Moisturising Balm (5 ml), Soothe and Calm Face Mask (5 ml), Overnight Replenishing Oil (5 ml) and a super-soft, eco-friendly bamboo washcloth that’s perfect for hot cleansing.

meadow cleansing balm

Gently Nourishing Cleansing Balm

This melting cleansing balm contains luxurious plant seed oils such as Mango, Safflower, Coconut, East Shea, Camellia and Grapeseed, and is deliciously scented with Lavender and Grapefruit essential oils. The key ingredient is Pumpkin Seed Oil which contains gently-exfoliating fruit enzymes and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs).  Pumpkin Seed Oil is also rich in beneficial Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids,  and restorative Vitamins A and E. Easy to use, the balm glides on and melts into skin.

How-to Use:

I massaged the balm into my face, including the area around my eyes, then used the bamboo face cloth soaked in hot water to remove any excess. It removes all traces of make-up and mascara easily,  leaving skin feeling clean and fresh – and without any dryness.

Meadow overnight replenishing oil

Overnight Replenishing Oil

This is my ‘hero’ product from the range.  I’ve tried a huge number of facial oils but only a few do what they claim. Full of nutrient-rich goodness harvested from 13 plant seed oils such as Rosehip, Pomegranate, Watermelon, Grapefruit, Frankincense, and packed with skin-nurturing Omega 3, 6, 9 Fatty Acids,  Vitamin B and  Vitamin A, this face oil does what it says on the bottle!  The key ingredient is Tomato Seed Oil which helps to promote a radiant, rosy glow.  It is also rich in antioxidant lycopene renowned for its free-radical fighting properties and helps to improve elasticity, skin tone and cell regeneration.  Skin feels and looks plumper,  more hydrated and fresher with regular use.

How-to Use:

I used the pipette to dispense a few drops into the palm of my hand, then warmed the oil between my hands before pressing and massaging the oil into my skin. I massaged any excess into my hands and neck as an added benefit. Easily absorbed into the skin, it’s perfect for night-time moisturisation and the soothing, sleep-inducing lavender aroma makes it the perfect bedtime treat – it works wonders overnight! It’s also a great intensive booster when skin is parched.

Meadow Hydration moisturising face balm

Hydration Boost Moisturising Face Balm,

I’ve read a lot about the benefits of Cannabis Oil in skincare but haven’t tried it before.  It is claimed to have properties that combat the signs of aging,  calm acne and soothe redness which make perfect sense in skincare. Hydration Boost Moisturising Balm is not only beneficial for dehydrated and ultra-sensitive skin, it also balances oil production for those with combination skin.  Along with Cannabis Oil, the key ingredient is Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil which contains 30 times more Vitamin C than an orange.  An excellent skin-firmer and hydrator, Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil also helps to reduce skin pigmentation caused by sun damage and protects against environmental pollutants.

How-to Use:

I scooped out a pea-sized amount of balm and warmed it in my hands before massaging it into freshly-cleansed skin, inhaling the gorgeous aroma of Lavender and Geranium oil. Geranium Oil, favoured by the Ancient Egyptians for promoting beautiful and radiant skin,  is used in aromatherapy and in skin care to treat acne, reduce inflammation, alleviate anxiety and balance hormones.  This sweet-smelling oil is also a real mood-booster and I found it perked me up when I was tired or feeling a bit flat.  One jar lasts around 8 – 10 weeks, so it’s a very economical skin treat too!

Calm and soothe face mask

Calm and Soothe Face Mask

Meadow Skin Care’s Calm and Soothe Face Mask is intensely moisturising, calming and line-smoothing, thanks to a combination of Babassu, Cucumber, Broccoli, Hemp, Elderberry,  Lavender and Bergamot extracts.  One of the key ingredients is Blue Yarrow Oil,  known for its cleansing, calming and soothing properties.  It also contains Kaolin Earth Clay which helps to decongest skin and gently drawing-out impurities – perfect for anyone who has a tendency to oiliness or occasional blemishes.  High levels of free-radical zapping vitamins help to minimise the visible signs of aging.

How-to Use:

I applied a thin, even layer to cleansed skin and left it on for 10 to 15 minutes before removing with the hand-hot bamboo cloth.  It spreads easily onto the skin and doesn’t dry too much. I often find that clay masks are too ‘tight’ and drying on my skin, but Calm and Soothe Face Mask does the job without feeling taught or uncomfortable.  The mask also contains hemp and broccoli oil, so expect a not unpleasant but definitely ‘earthy’ smell!

Love! Meadow Skincare is a fantastic brand run by 2 inspirational women. I love the fact that all the products are hand-made, sustainably-sourced and eco-friendly – and they really work.  Winner!
