I love essential oils, so I’m always delighted to find new stockists and sources. I’ve recently discovered Blended Valley, a company specialising in unique essential oil blends, rather than single oils. The oils, grouped into three categories – healing, elemental and chakra oils – are blended to target specific issues. So whether you want an oil blend to help you sleep, to improve your meditation experience or to help you rebalance your energy levels, Blended Valley have an oil for you. And if you are an absolute beginner, their site has an impressive bank of free resources, including an aromatherapy e-book, along with in-depth information about each blend and how to use it. I’ve road-tested a selection of the Healing and Chakra blends as I had specific concerns that I wanted to address using the oils.
Let’s face it. Better sleep is something that we all want so I was super-keen to give this oil a try! Formulated to promote better sleep, it’s a combination of bergamot, chamomile, lavender and vetiver essential oils in a base of apricot kernel oil. It smells absolutely divine and I’ve been diffusing it in my bedroom every evening, as well as mixing it with some fractionated coconut oil and applying it to the soles of my feet 20 minutes before bed. I also put a couple of drops on my hands, rub them together then inhale the aroma just before I go to sleep, or you can spritz it onto your pillow.
Verdict: I can’t tell you how much I love this oil! It really has improved my sleep no end, and smells so beautiful and calming. It’s an absolute knockout! You can purchase this oil here.
Aromatherapy is well-known for its positive effect on our emotions. It can help to elevate our mood, clear our mind or allow us to be more focused. It also heightens and enhances a variety of spiritual activities, including meditation. I’ve never come across a blend specifically for use during meditation, so this oil was a great find. So how does it work? Our olfactory system (which controls our sense of smell), and our emotions are closely linked. Once our brain associates an aroma with a specific state of mind, such as deep relaxation during meditation, whenever you smell that scent, you will automatically feel more relaxed.
Verdict: This oil has definitely had an impact on my meditation practice, as the aroma helps me to stay in the moment by letting my brain know that it’s meditation time once the oil starts to diffuse. Meditation is all about routine, and using Meditation Oil while focusing on an object helps me stick to my practice. There is also something very relaxing about watching a wisp of steam from your diffuser as you meditate. You can purchase the meditation oil here.
As well as oil blends for everyday use such as Sleep and Meditation, Blended Valley have also created oils that improve self confidence and esteem. If you’re looking for a bit of female empowerment, Goddess Oil if the one for you. A blend of frankincense, lavender, jasmine, sandalwood and rose essentials oils, the rose definitely stands out, a scent I instantly identify as sensual and womanly. I’ve been using this oil as a perfume, dabbing it onto my wrists and neck. I also mixed it with a handful of Epsom Salts for a luxurious scented bath. And for an extra dose of sensuality, I put a few drops on some cotton wool and used it to scent my underwear drawer and handbag.
Verdict: This oil is perfect if you need a bit of strong ‘Goddess’ energy! Great when you’re going on a date, or if you work in a male environment – or live in an all-male household. This oil reminds me of how great it is to be a woman – strong, independent and and also seductive. It’s an all-round confidence booster too. You can purchase the Goddess Oil here.
My concentration has been absolutely shocking for the last few months, I’m increasingly finding it more and more difficult to read a book, watch a film and occasionally, to hold a conversation without being distracted. With this in mind, I was really looking forward to trying this oil.
Verdict: I’ve been diffusing the oil in my office when I’m writing, and have definitely have noticed a difference. I LOVE the citrusy and herbal aroma – a blend of basil, which is renowned for relieving nervous tension, anxiety and mental strain and bergamot, which is stress and anxiety-busting – and now identify it with working. I recently bought two books that I love and wanted to read, so I diffuse this oil whilst reading, and have noticed a remarkable difference. My focus is better, and my concentration lasts longer than 2 nano seconds! In fact, I even managed to write 2 blog posts in a row this week, which is completely unheard of for me! Another bonus of this oil is that my whole house smells amazing. Even my partner commented and that’s unusual. Say no more! You can purchase the focus and concentration oil here.
Whether we like it or not, our body and mind are heavily influenced by our own energy and the energy of others. Aligning our chakras so that they’re perfectly balanced and in tune with each other helps us fell energized, grounded and ‘whole’. In yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic medicine, there are seven main chakras or ‘wheels’, the Sanskrit translation of the word. These are the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, third eye and crown chakras. The chakras help to align the spine, starting from the base of the spine up to the crown of the head. You can visualise a chakra by imagining a swirling wheel of energy and this energy, called Prana, is the vital life force which keeps us healthy and balanced. Each chakra governs an emotional aspect, and when the third eye chakra is out of balance or is blocked, we can suffer from anxiety, cynicism and close mindedness. I found this article about third eye healing very interesting. Opening your third eye chakra is supposed to heighten our intuition, help our spiritual awareness, and give us clarity. I diffused this oil in a diffuser throughout the day – 15 mins on – then 45 minutes rest, (when you feel you need it ), and also put a spot directly on my third eye chakra (in the centre of my forehead) when I felt overwhelmed.
Verdict: This is an oil that I got a real shift from. Although I hadn’t given it much thought, I had been feeling ‘foggy’ for a few weeks and that my ‘gut’ feelings and intuition were absent. I blamed this spending too much time working at my computer, and although I’ve had plenty of opportunity to be out in green space, I felt so overloaded with work that I haven’t been going outside often enough. When I started using this oil, I felt an overwhelming feeling that I need to reassess my work/life balance. At the moment, I’m working full-time and running my blog which is also pretty much full-time too, so I needed to get balance again and learn to trust my intuition. I have a lot to thank this oil for, as this is something I hadn’t noticed before, and it has made me very aware of what I need to work on. You can purchase this oil here.
The throat chakra governs expression. It makes perfect sense since our voice box is located here and essentially, it’s where our ‘speech’ comes from. Having a balanced throat chakra means we can express ourselves well, can communicate effectively with others and be creative. I sometimes find it hard to express myself properly, and have a fear of public speaking and even of Facebook and Instagram. These are all an important part of running my blog, so I’ve been using this oil, a blend of Ginger, Lime, Basil and Chamomile, to help me express myself properly, and to get my words out fluently. I diffuse it for 20-30 minutes before I have to do any public speaking.
Verdict: This oil has helped me when I have to talk for a long time or when I’m doing any kind of public speaking or presenting to camera for my blog. The words flow more easily and I don’t get so tongue-tied or forget what I am saying. You can purchase the throat chakra oil here.
As I said earlier, I’m a huge fan and consumer of essential oils. One of my pet hates, however, is that many good quality oils are only available through a network marketing company which I’m not a fan of. When I buy an oil, I just want to buy it like any other product, rather than go through an agent and then be bombarded daily with sale posts! This is not the case with Blended Valley Oils which are available directly from the company. Their oils are also reasonably priced and I love the fact that their blends are unique. They are also perfect for anyone interested in spirituality, yoga and meditation. For anyone wanting to try these oils, some of the blends are available in a 10 ml size and in starter sets. The Chakra Oil Gift Set contains 7 x 10 ml chakra oils. I absolutely love the Wellbeing Gift Set which contains some 4 of my favourite oils including Concentration and Sleep. They would also make beautiful gifts for Mother’s Day, and if you want to buy an unusual gift for someone moving home, the Housewarming Set is an absolutely lovely idea – better than another toaster!
