Convenience is definitely one of the big benefits of Yoga Download. As the name suggests, you can also download classes when you know you’re going to be away from WiFi access. Plus, once you download the classes, you will have them forever! Online classes have definitely been a real positive for me during lockdown – and something that I will continue to access. I always thought that I needed to live somewhere close to all the amenities I need including a good yoga studio. But through lockdown, I’ve become extremely resourceful, looking for other ways to enjoy my beloved yoga classes.

Recently, I tried Zoom classes with my yoga teacher, but I found it difficult to do the poses and to concentrate on what my teacher was doing at the same time! And because the class was live, I couldn’t pause to ‘regroup,’ so I kept getting lost in the sequence which meant that just gave up.

Pick an objective or a focus

Whether you want your yoga to be toning and strengthening or want to wind down, relieve back pain or improve your flexibility, you can select a class to suit your objective. There are also options to choose lunchtime yoga, yoga for cyclists, and even ‘partner’ yoga – every option is covered! An over 50s section offers gentler classes – slightly alarming, as I realise that I now fit into the ‘older’ category! Another bonus is the option to do technique workshops which teach you how to get the right technique for specific poses. These are crucial to getting the best out of your practice and the teacher doesn’t always have time to break every pose down in normal classes. Body Zone or Pose?

Similar to the way that you can target ‘bums, tums and thighs’ or ‘abs’ with a gym workout, the Yoga Download App, allows you to focus on a zone. Whether you feel like you want more of an ‘abs’ workout, or you want to focus on your legs or back, this section is a really clever way to break your practice down to work on a specific body part. In yoga, there are always parts we enjoy more or want to practice more of and this section allows you to concentrate on arm balances, backbends, or Sun Salutations. I suffer from a bad back, so I find the backbend coaching very helpful.

Under each section, there is also a subsection to allow you to select from your favourite style of yoga, whether it’s Yin, Hatha, Ashtanga, or Intensity: Pick ‘Ahhhhhh’ for the lowest intensity or ‘Bring a Towel’ for the high-intensity classes. You can even choose your teacher (if you have a favourite) and the length of time you want to practise for. And you really can fit it into your routine, as there is are classes of every length, from 5 mins to 120 mins. There is also a media section to choose from: video, audio, or audio with slides, so whatever your learning style, you can follow the classes that best suit your needs.

Pick your Programme

Yoga Download has specific programmes, challenges and workshops that allow you to work towards a goal. I love the 5-day Evening Challenge; it’s amazing how quickly you can change your routine when you follow along. During lockdown, I’ve been practicing yoga every evening and am really enjoying it. I look forward to my nighttime routine with Himalayan salt lamps, essential oils and relaxing yoga practice before bed! Also, I’ve been doing the manifesting meditation series which is so beneficial. But there are plenty of others to choose from, including beginners, strengthening, flexibility, detox and relax and restore. The sky really is the limit with Yoga Download.

The Downsides?

You obviously don’t receive the on-hand corrections that you would from a normal yoga class and there is always a lovely social side to yoga which you might miss. But for me, yoga classes often make me feel bad about myself. People around me are bending themselves in half or wearing next to nothing and looking fabulous! Normally, I’m the one wishing I’d invested more on my outfit and bending like I’m 90, so I often feel self conscious.

So, for me online yoga classes are perfect. There is no one to compare myself to and I can concentrate on my own practice and notice my own small wins without comparing them to anyone else’s!

My experience of Yoga Download

I really love Yoga Download! I have tried Yoga Glo before, but I didn’t really get on with it. One of the things that sold me most on Yoga Download was the affordable price, and how easy it is to use. I have also really enjoyed being on my own yoga journey without comparing myself to other yogis. The classes are varied enough to give me options and I love the challenges and programmes.
